Bettini
The Bettini winery was purchased from Umberto I. King of Italy, on March 16, 1880, by Filippo Bettini. The winery is located in the Valgella, the northernmost subzone of Valtellina. After purchasing the winery, Filippo’s sons Giovanni, Giacomo, Pietro, and Domenico began to manage the high-altitude, terraced vineyards. In 1881 they began the production and marketing of Bettini wines in San Giacomo di Teglio. It is among the oldest producing wineries in Valtellina. The four brothers demonstrated passion, ability, and foresight in setting up the winery and continuing their family’s traditions.
From the end of the nineteenth century, the property gradually became more substantial and at the beginning of the new century Pietro Bettini (son of Giovanni) boasted important customers in surrounding areas such as Switzerland.
The winery continued to expand throughout Pietro’s time, and he eventually passed the winery on to his son, Guido. Guido has shared his challenging and fascinating passion of wine making with his kids: Ornella, Pietro, and Cinzia. Guido is active in the winery and is proud to tell his grandchildren about the industriousness of his ancestors.
The family works together in the vineyards and cellars, never forgetting the great tradition characterizing the family name and winery. The grapes only come from their vineyards, which are all found in the classical areas of Valtellina Superiore and are carefully selected and then vinified. The wines for Riservas, Selections, and Sforzato’s mature and are refined in precious large oak barrels in their ancient cellar. Bettini has historically produced Spumante Brut-Bianco and the Brut-Rosè, following the strictest classic method of production. Bettini continues to search for the right balance between tradition and modernization, which allows the winery to produce the highest quality products.
